Ok! So! This is probably because I haven't read the books, but I honestly don't get why people are angry about Gimli being funny in the movie. Like it negates his tough little dwarf persona. I mean, can't one be a badass mofo and also be funny? Intentionally or not? Because I loved Gimli in TTT. I thought he was funny, and brave, and a badass mofo to boot. I like a little funny in my badass mofo. And, as you may have guessed, I like the phrase badass mofo, but that's beside the point. And there is one.
Or maybe there isn't. Because really, who am I to say whether a funny Gimli is right or wrong? Am I the Gimli police? I haven't even read the book! I have no authority! None!
Yet watch me keep talking. Basically, I'm always puzzled whenever something/someone being funny is A Bad Thing because, almost always, I like it. Some could say this is because I lack appreciation for artistic integrity, and my affection for the films Dumb & Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective bears this out. Or maybe it's because I grew up in a house where Taking Everything Very, Very Seriously was the cardinal sin. Well, that and dropping f-bombs.
Is it because Gimli's short? Am I being insensitive to short people by finding him funny? But I laughed when Gandalf bumped his head in Bilbo's cabin in FotR! So I am equal-opportunity when it comes to humor arising from height disparities.
And let's face it, dwarf tossing? Comedy gold!
EDITED because I'm a tard and mixed up Dumbledore and Gandalf. What is wrong with me? Correction made.
