Every so often I get a little overzealous with my Proactiv and run out of the cleanser before my next batch arrives; this happened recently, and so I've been using some random Neutrogena scrub, which was probably the cause of my breakouts. I used my Proactiv again tonight and my skin does feel different - the thing is, when I was using the cleanser, it felt different. Not as gritty, as if they'd made the grit they put in it finer or something. But that may simply be because the grit in the Neutrogena scrub was huge.

Random note: It literally took me like fifteen minutes to come up with the term "gritty" which I'm still not completely satisfied, but is better than the next-best-thing I'd come up with, which was, "those small rocky things in the cleanser that probably don't do anything but at least give the illusion of exfoliating."

Anyway, my question is, for any of you out there who use Proactiv: Did the formula change at all? Or is it just me?

Randomly again: If you get the chance, I recommend checking out Troop 1500 on PBS. It's a documentary about a Girl Scout troop made up of girls whose mothers are in prison, and it was really excellent. I really want to know more about the girls and their mothers, but I can't get any concrete information anywhere. Also, I came in late to watching it, so I missed finding out why one of the mothers was in jail, the one who was in there for (by my caculation) at least twenty more years. What did she do? Did anyone else watch?

I don't think the solution has changed. It feels the same to me. You know what I do to avoid running out of cleanser? Instead of getting the cleanser, toner and the cream in each shipment, I've changed it so I get three cleansers in the shipment. You can have any combination as long as it's 3. So I get three cleansers and every once in awhile, I'll get two cleansers and a toner. I never seem to run out of the cream. I have enough to last me a year.

you know, I heard that walgreens has a store brand proactiv clone that's just as good, but much cheaper. Might be worth checking out? :)

you are correct-- proactive totally de-gritted their cleanser.
took me awhile to get used to it, but it works the same.
i've been using it since '97 and now only use the cleanser
and the repair lotion for a great effect. :)

I love how you are wanting to know the backstory on a (cool-sounding) PBS documentary, while I was just thinking last night that I really need to find out what the various winners (and runners-up) on America's Next Top Model are up to. Because it seems to me that none of them have become, in fact, a top model at all. Must investigate. I bet there's a Web site.

I found some stuff called Klear Action at Target (also Walgreens) and it seems to be exactly like Proactiv. It might actually work better, for me. I highly endorse it. $19.99 for the three piece system. And you can just go to the store and pick some up when you run out.

I think Proactiv did change, btw, it doesn't work as well for me as it used to, and I noticed it to be less grainy.

It feels exactly the same to me -- but maybe I'm using an older bottle of cleanser. I sort of "stockpiled" multiples of all three parts before I realized I could slow down my shipment to every other month. So maybe I just haven't gotten one of the newer ones yet.

It was such an excellent documentary. The woman who was slated for 23 years was a former nurse who had euthanized a patient. She put extra potassium in their IVs.
