i heart eddie
Feb. 19th, 2004 01:00 amI really feel that not enough people are watching Keen Eddie, the other show Fox handled crappily by showing episodes out of order and offering little promotion so that it got canceled after less than a full season. Damn you, Fox! Damn you to Hell!
I didn't watch Keen Eddie when it was on Fox, but have become totally addicted to it on Bravo, where it airs on Tuesdays at 10PM and 1AM Eastern Time, and various other times during the week. Also, every so often there is a random marathon of three or so episodes (like, say, tonight).
That said! This show is fabulous, and I love it to pieces. It's about an American cop who ends up in London due to a bungled drug heist, and -- okay, honestly? You guys don't care about this! What you do care about, or what you should care about, or, rather, what *I* care about is the following:
-Eddie, the American cop and main character, is totally classic-blond-hunk-handsome, which can be kind of boring except for the fact that the actor is funny in a natural way, and tremendously likable, and is partnered with
-Monty Pippin, Brit Detective Guy (and I'm sure that's a technical term), who looks all prim and uppity but who is actually quite obsessed with sex to the point that Eddie thinks he's a sex addict and tries, in a very earnest way, to get him to seek professional help.
-Eddie and Pippin are adorable together, and one time they had this huge fight and when Eddie got tired of it, he turned to Pippin while they were in a car on stakeout and said, "Give us a kiss. Come on, just on the cheek. A kiss." Also, Pippin always calls Eddie "Dude" which, for some reason, never fails to crack me up. Does "dude" just sound funnier from a British man? A question for the ages.
-And then, of course, there is the Love Interest, Fiona, Blonde Beautiful Brit (currently dating Jude Law -- not the character, for she is fictional, but the actress, which you probably already knew, but I always need to over-clarify) and Eddie's roommate. And they hate each other. And it's just SO PREDICTABLE and corny as hell but I still like it. Because Fiona says things like, "You know what would be great? If you got food poisoning," and I've always secretly wanted to (a) be able to think of funny cutting things like that, and (b) be able to say them out loud. Also, she and Eddie do that adorable thing where they pretend to hate each other but secretly help each other out and I'm just a sucker for that.
-But most of all, it's very funny and has great energy.
And really, what else are you going to watch when you're waiting for the show about lawyers in the future to come on? Oh God, I cannot wait for this show. Will it be awful? Will it be fabulously awful? Or could it actually be good? It is, after all, going to be a show that explores what happens when a firm of go-gettin' lawyers in the future have to defend a rock star for refusing to (and I quote) "alter the laws of human nature to help his band stay on top."
Greatness!
