After long weeks of deliberation, I've finally come to a decision: I am going to buy a cell phone. Because I may not have an apartment of my own, or even a coherent vision of my own future, but Goddammit, I will have my own phone number! And voicemail! With my very own awkwardly-rendered outgoing message! Maybe I'll be all Dylan McKay and just say "You know what to do." I will have my own message! And my own little phone!

It's so exciting!

That is, of course, unless I experience intense buyer's remorse before I can leave the mall like I did with the CD player in the car. We'll see.

Saw Firefly on Friday and I really, really liked it. I keep trying to say this in an intelligent way, but what it boils down to is that Joss has cool ideas and funny dialog and creates interesting characters and so I think I'll probably like anything he does. And I liked this a lot. And, ok, I'll always have a special place in my heart for Nathan Fillion since he was my favorite Joey Buchanan, but whatever. I still think he was great in this. And ok, maybe I'll also always have a special place in my heart for Jewel Staite (and Ben Foster, for that matter, but that's neither here nor there) since I so loved Flash Forward, but whatever. I still think she was fabulous.

Cannot wait for Gilmore Girls and Buffy. And Smallville, I guess, but mostly the former two.

Tonight is one of those nights where I find myself so GD boring that I can't believe I started writing a LJ entry in the first place, but have put so much time into writing one up that I refuse not to post it. And so the rest of this will be buried behind a cut tag.

Today I committed the usual small errors, the most glaring ones being when I answered the phone:

Moi: Good afternoon, Mr. MyLastName's office. Haha! I mean, Mr. Boss's Office! Haha! Hello? Hello?

And then I left the following message at another attorney's office:

Moi:...if you can reschedule the deposition, please give me a call at 555-5555, Extension Jessica. I mean, Extension 555! Haha! And my name is Jessica. Not my extension. My extension is 555. And my name is Jessica. Ok. Bye.

But the true kicker was Friday afternoon when I had to call a local court on a speeding ticket to find out who Mr. Boss should address his letter inquiring about a plea to. I had called this court multiple times over the week and was bitter about having to call information again because yes, I am that lazy and I do resent the thirty seconds it takes to dial "9-411" and then saying "Random Village Court" to get the number. So I was sitting there, bitter about having to call information when I realized! I knew the number! I *remembered* it! I was so excited to discover that my brain wasn't completely fried that I was actually happy to make the call. And here is the transcript:

Bitter Employee: Town Hall.

Super Temp: Hi, I'm trying to reach the Town Court?

BE: One moment.

[Lalala, interlude just long enough for me to completely space out and get distracted.]

Helpful Person: Town Court.

ST: Hi! I'm calling from Attorney Mr. Boss's office regarding People vs. SpeedDemon? I was wondering who we should write to about a plea?

HP: Ok, let me find the case...the ticket number?

ST: (Gleeful for she is actually PREPARED and has the ticket RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER) Uh, XX 99999?

HP: Hm. That's strange. It's not coming up. Do you have an appearance date on the ticket?

ST: Yup, this past Wednesday.

HP: Hm.

ST: We faxed over a letter on it this morning about the plea, too.

HP: Really? That's strange, we don't usually receive service by fax.

ST: (Sympathetic to HP's incompetence since I've Been There Before) Do you want the ticket number again?

HP: No, that's ok. Now was this a LocalTown Police officer or a State Trooper who issued the ticket?

[Cue horrifying realization, since I was supposed to be contacting a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COURT.]

ST: OkIdon'tknowI'llhavetogetbacktoyouthanksbye.

Oh God, it was so embarrassing.
