Bravo has been running this special on the 100 Funniest Movies over the long weekend, and while I know that list shows like this are guaranteed to inspire anger and frustration, I have to say, this one was especially bad. The Wedding Singer in the top ten? WTF? And I like that movie a lot! But it's certainly not in the top ten of all time!

Some Like It Hot and Bringing Up Baby weren't even in the top ten!

Another movie included in the top 100 was Napoleon Dynamite, a movie I do think is hilarious. I watched it with a friend of mine once, though, and she was completely befuddled by it. I think she laughed once, maybe twice. ([livejournal.com profile] foxyfrau will remember this!)

I have never managed to make it through Napoleon Dynamite awake. *cowers and hides :)

No need for hiding! One of my very best friends had the same reaction - I think it's either feast or famine with ND. Either you find it hilarious, or it's totally boring.

I only watched it because a cute boy who I wanted to make out with wanted me to watch it. Both the movie and the boy were yawn worthy.

Am sorry about the boy! It's always disappointing when cute boys turn out to be yawn-worthy.

It's ok...he also turned out to have a pretty lame spiderm,an tattoo and no matter how hot the back it's on, I don't think THAT can be forgiven.

I was actually not terribly impressed with Napoleon Dynamite the first time I watched it, but have enjoyed it more in subsequent viewings. I taught my students loose translations of, "Friggin' idiot" and "Whatever I feel like, gosh!" last semester.

That is awesome!

I had the same experience with Napleon Dynamite, and have been having a similar reaction to Nacho Libre. When I first saw the previews, I thought, "That looks terrible." After viewing it with almost every new movie I've gone to see in the theaters, it's upgraded to, "I don't know. Maybe."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, I know!

If I ever randomly say, "so, what are you gonna do today, napoleon?" my best friend will instantly reply "whatever i feel like i wanna do, GOSH!" complete with squinched face and whipping-head action. WHICH IS WHY SHE'S MY BEST FRIEND.

*g*

I totally know what you mean! I'm okay with having a few friends who don't get the movie, but I think I'd be sad and troubled if none of my friends enjoyed it.

I have no idea who made that list, but when AFI did a similar thing in 2000, Some Like It Hot was the #1 comedy of all time. I say we go with that list.

Just to clarify, I was not the befuddled friend, but the one sitting next to Befuddled, giggling hysterically with you. Yes, I am the one who chose "funniest movie of the last five years" and "all of the above" in your poll.

Felix glanced over my shoulder as I was reading this and totally said "What's a liger?" So I got to tell him all about how it's bred for it's skills in magic. He desperately wants to understanf the hilarity of Napoleon, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

I also occasionally like to whip out the phrases, "I caught you a delicious bass" and "Gimme your tots" or "Get your own tots."

DUDE, did I tell you about going to that party with Andrea and co. and we had to put down something that symbolized love and I put down "bass" and NO ONE GOT IT?! IT WAS SO TRAGIC. THIS IS WHY WE NEED YOU BACK IN UPSTATE NY.

Poor Befuddled Jo! How does she put up with us?

Man, I wish Felix would catch me a delicious bass once in a while. It could really put some romance back in our relationship.

You did tell me this story. I totally would have gotten the reference.

At the very least, I hope that when he sketches you, he spends sufficient time on the shading of your upper lip. (Actually, that's not really an issue for you, but for me, any artistic paramour would totally have to spend a lot of time getting it right).

Anna! I don't want to clean! This LJ comment reply serves no purpose other than to whine about how much I don't want to clean. My brother has declared the computer room and my bedroom are no longer rooms, but "garbage cans with walls" - when my brother thinks something is dirty, clearly something must be done! Yet I completely lack motivation!
