Jul. 11th, 2001 01:20 amJust tried to spell check my LJ entry and my computer spazzed. Fuckers! So pardon any horrendous spelling errors in the forthcoming entry, as I'm now spellchecker-shy.
Went to the office today. Dad finally buckled and bought a computer (an old, cheap-ass, slow one, but a computer nonetheless), and it was so nice not to have to struggle with a word processor. I was so happy I had to restrain myself from dancing about -- something I save for when I'm alone in the office. Unfortunately, Dad was in the next room. Could not get down with my bad self. Tried to make up for it on the ride home.
Speaking of...one of the local radio stations has, for some reason, cut out Lil Kim's verse in Lady Marmalade! What is up with that? I mean, that's my favorite verse! It's the one that, when I'm singing it, I feel the most confident that I do not sound like a dying animal! That's the fun of a song to me -- being able to believe, for whatever brief period of time, that you do not suck. That you could, quite possibly, rock. That at the next stoplight the guy in the car next to you is going to roll down his window and say, "Hey you! Yeah, you with the jammin' dance moves! I admire the fact that you refuse to let the fact that you are driving uphill in a standard keep you from waving your hands about and singing at the top of your lungs! You, milady, are surely the next Madonna. Or, perhaps, Tiffany -- only time will tell. Here's my card and a recording contract."
Anyway. I want my Lil Kim back! I want to wave my hands about and over-emote when she asks that perennial question -- "Why spend mine, when I can spend yours?" I want to feel like I do, in fact, rock. When I sing along to Christina Aguilera I feel like I'm going to have fruit tossed at me by passing cars.
I'm off to play the mother of all sing-along songs -- Aretha Franklin's Respect. I will become Aretha. I will feel that I am Aretha's long-lost Irish-American daughter, our connection will be so strong. I will rock!
