do your thing thing
Jul. 21st, 2002 01:31 amFor those of you playing along at home, I got the temp job with the law firm (woot woot) and I start after the big vacay to Florida, which is exciting. The interview was ok, though I always feel like I come off as socially (perhaps mentally, even?) retarded in interview situations, all stammer-y and rambly and stuff, because my natural tendency when meeting people is to listen to them talk for a while to get comfortable and then contribute a bit. Interviewing is pretty much the opposite of that and it shows when I'm facing challenging interview questions like, "So, can you really type 77 words per minute?" and "The hours are nine to five-thirty, are you ok with that?"
And so I've got a job for about three months at least, which is cool. I went in for some training and the people seemed decent, the office a bit maze-like and confusing, but the girl I'm replacing was very frank about how all the people are and told me that the attorney I'd be reporting to was the most laid back one in the office, so that's good. Isn't this fascinating? Should I go on in more detail? Would you like to know which tray the good paper is in in the printer? I am so boring!
Okay then, I'll move on.
The other day [Kaelie] revealed to me that she always pictured me as rather short, around 5'2, when I'm actually 5'6 (maybe a smidge under, but my license says 5'6, so that's what I go by), which made me wonder: Do I have a short personality? I think I do! I think I was meant to be petite. When I was little and used to write creative short stories about heroines with long, dramatic names and superpowers who always saved everyone (I was all over the Mary Sue fic before I even know what the internet was, man), the heroines were always short. Maybe I will shrink as I get older and arrive at my spiritual height sometime in my eighties.
Among other recent developments: I have begun the Renovation Of Jess Program (also known as the Jess Renovation Program, depending on my mood). When told of the Jess Renovation Program, [some people] laughed until they were breathless. I have chosen to believe that the laughter arose because the idea of renovating something which is already so fabulous was simply ridiculous, and not because they either (a) doubted the success of the Jess Renovation Problem, or (b) found it ridiculous.
