v. important question

I left my peanut butter and jelly sandwich out overnight. Can I eat it for lunch today? Will it make me sick? It was wrapped and everything, but I'm pretty sure jelly is refrigerated for a reason. It will almost undoubtedly taste crappy, but one can say that about almost every meal I prepare.

Advice appreciated!

Well, I've taken them premade camping over night before and never gotten sick, so I'd say eat it.

I have missed out on important practical knowledge by never camping! I took your advice. The sandwich was actually pretty good, so the saga has a happy ending.

Dude, it will taste *better* because the bread will be soft. :) I think you're okay.

You were right!

if it's not cheese, I think you're fine.

Sandwich was cheese-free (PB&Js are one of the few things I won't add cheese to), and consumed without incident. Thanks for the advice!

Also, if it's not mayo.

I agree, avoiding old mayo is a good life rule.

I know I am too late to answer this particular dilemma, but I just wanted to mention that I keep jam unrefrigerated, and my family keeps jam unrefrigerated, and we're all fine.

Just out of curiosity (because you sound as though you would know), do you keep peanut butter unrefrigerated, too? My parents hardly ever bought peanut butter when we were little, so I have no idea what to do with it once I've opened it. Will I die if I don't refrigerate it after opening?

I don't refrigerate peanut butter either, but I would think if you weren't gonna finish the jar in a relatively timely manner, you should refrigerate it (same with the jam, actually. We eat it fairly quickly or we keep it in the fridge).

I'll ask my mom, the food scientist, to make sure, but I'm sure it would be okay to leave it out if you prefer to.
