She sounds like my grandparents (now deceased), not in any particular way but in the way that I found them boring and hideously embarrassing a lot of the time when I was a kid, but now look back and realize that they taught me Important Lessons about Being Human just by being good people who didn't care that they were, uh, eccentric.

That's a great way of putting it. And I want to hear about your grandparents! Eccentric people tend to be the best kind of people, I've found.
